Article: Continuing my husband's legacy
Continuing my husband's legacy
As many of you know, six months ago my husband Fred passed away from complications with the COVID-19 virus. We share in the sympathies of millions of families around the world who have experienced loss in this pandemic, and the unexpected suddenness which has changed our lives forever. Fred started this company nearly 20 years ago from our living room here in High Point, North Carolina. From day one, his passion and excitement for Bernhardt Watches was immeasurable. Beginning in those early days with repairs, to the thousands of watches my husband created for customers years later, the company has developed tremendously, and I couldn’t be prouder of what my husband created.
Our community of followers affectionately dubbed themselves “Fred Heads,” and in January 2022 I began to worry what Bernhardt would look like without my husband. In the time immediately following Fred’s passing, my son Phillip and I worked hard to keep things in order, and for the leniency and patience our customers showed us during this difficult time, we’re incredibly grateful. As we’ve become more comfortable with the operations of Bernhardt, so too have we become on the question of its future. I always believed in my husband… I believed in the quality of our products, I believed in his ability to connect with customers, and I believed in his vision for the company.
Part of our company’s slogan reads “the customer is right, their expectations should be high, and they will make a friend in the process.” My husband stood by this promise to customers, and my son Phillip and I will do the same! What we’ve learned most about Bernhardt over the past six months, has been how wonderful our customers are, and the impact our products have had on collectors and enthusiasts of all stages of life. When we lost Fred, the amount of love and support we received from our community was overwhelming. From stories about customers’ interactions with my husband, to offers to help us here at the company, we’re incredibly grateful. Your notes of kindness have been at the front of our minds, and have driven a passion to keep Fred’s legacy alive through Bernhardt Watches.
Our company was, and still is, a family business! And as we move forward, we’ve brought on a couple of Fred Heads to help ensure we’re always delivering on our promise to our customers. We’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share them with you!
