Bernhardt Watch Company was born out of a love for fine craftsmanship and a passion for precision. The idea for the company was sparked when Jamie Amos suggested to her husband Fred that he start his own watch company, initially crafting timepieces for the local university. He ran the burgeoning business out of their living room, a humble beginning that set the foundation for what would become a respected name in the microbrand watchmaking industry.

Fred Amos, a visionary with an eye for design and quality, quickly established Bernhardt as one of the pioneers in the microbrand watch industry. His approach was always personal. Fred believed in building strong relationships with his customers, understanding their needs, and ensuring they received a product that met his high standards. His commitment to quality and his personable nature made Bernhardt Watch Company not just a business, but a community of watch enthusiasts who trusted and valued his work.

In the early days, Bernhardt Watch Company set itself apart by focusing on limited production runs and unique designs, a hallmark of the microbrand movement. Fred's meticulous attention to detail and insistence on using quality materials helped establish Bernhardt as a trusted name among watch collectors and enthusiasts.

When Fred unexpectedly passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19, it left a profound impact on all who knew him. His absence posed a significant challenge to the future of the company he had so lovingly built. However, the overwhelming support from friends, family, and the wider watch community inspired Jamie to continue Fred’s legacy. Michael, who had been a loyal customer turned friend of Fred’s, and later the company’s photographer, approached Jamie and offered his help to keep the company going. Recognizing his passion for watches and dedication to preserving Fred's legacy, Jamie invited Michael to join her in running the business.

Today, Bernhardt Watch Company stands as a testament to resilience, dedication, and the power of community. Our latest creation, The Starboard, is the first complete project we’ve undertaken since Fred’s passing. It symbolizes a new chapter for Bernhardt, one where we blend innovation with the timeless quality Fred always promised.

We continue to uphold Fred's commitment to delivering exceptional timepieces and providing an outstanding customer experience. As we move forward, we remain deeply grateful for the support that has allowed us to keep Fred’s dream alive.
